As we already had plans to host part of the family for Boxing Day this year, we thought that would be a perfect time to try out some of the delicious-sounding Christmas desserts.
There were lots of things to choose from, but we decided upon the Black Forest Dome Gateau, Chocolate Yule Log and Snowball Profiteroles. All from the frozen section so we were able to buy them in advance and keep for when they would be needed.
All the items defrosted in just a couple of hours at room temperature so we were able to get them out in the morning on Boxing Day and they were ready to eat by the time the family was with us for lunchtime.
We served them up as part of our Buffet spread, everybody loves a choice of dessert.
The Snowball Profiteroles were particularly popular. Just the right amount of Choux pastry, chocolate and cream, and just the right size for popping in your mouth!
The Chocolate Yule Log was a lovely fresh twist on standard Yule Log’s, more like an Arctic Roll in texture, this one was very popular with both adults and children alike.
The Black Forest Dome Gateau was one more for the adults (although our 10 year old son came back for seconds so was obviously enjoyed by the younger members too!). Just the right amount of sponge, fruit and chocolate, it tasted lovely with a drizzle of fresh cream.
Needless to say, none of the desserts hung around for long, and added a good level of variety to our Boxing Day spread. For the price, averaging £2-£3 per item, I think they were extremely good value for money and something we would love to serve again. All four generations of the family found something they enjoyed and nothing went to waste.
